The vessel's freight is calculated based on the nature of the cargo, the volume of the shipment and the route (port of loading and port of unloading), the standards of handling vessels in ports, crane vessel or not, and other conditions.

Freight market is one of the types of commodity market in which the role of goods is movement, i.e. transport services. The monetary expression of the cost of transport services is the price of transportation, which, when delivering goods by sea, has 2 forms: freight rate and tariff.
Freight rates are applied in tram shipping and represent the price that is set at the conclusion of each individual contract by agreement of the parties (the charterer and the charterer) and is valid only for these partners and for the period of this transaction.

Tariffs are a system of transportation prices operating in linear shipping. They are developed by a linear company as a public carrier unilaterally and then applied to any sender and for a long period (up to the change).

The economic basis of freight rates and tariffs is the cost of production of transport products, i.e. cost + average profit margin. The main part of it consists of expenses that depend on the value of the construction cost of the vessel - depreciation charges, the rate of return on invested capital or interest on a loan, insurance. Other important components of the cost of transportation are fuel costs, repairs and maintenance of the crew.

A freight broker is an intermediary and negotiator between the owner of the cargo/By the Sender and the Shipowner/Carrier. As a rule, the Broker has extensive connections among shipowners and has many well-established contacts with cargo owners. For his services, the broker receives remuneration in the form of a percentage of the freight amount, thereby helping to organize the transportation process as profitably as possible for both parties.
